The Bike tour for freedom tour through Rotterdam is a success with over 80 participants. The weather is nice on Saturday April 17, sun and a breath of fresh air. At 11.45 am a large group is already at the starting point at the Grafisch Lyceum in Rotterdam. The cops, who facilitate the entire journey, stand by at a distance. Gerard Nederpel wears a striped prisoner suit. He organizes this trip for the third time.

People are busy blowing up heart balloons fotr the bike. On the body participants can wear text cards. Gerard himself hands out sunglasses with the text ‘feel free to come closer’. Most participants like to do this with a hug. Universal love is an important energy to connect people.

There is music. DJ Djas plays music from his stereo at the from on his bike. There is live music from Wijnand. He sits on a cushion in a cargo bike. Mike is so nice to cycle the whole tour. Then there are participants with megaphones who can shout slogans on the road. The most frequently heard is ‘Love, freedom, democracy’

This third time there are two Angels, the angel on roller skates and Willem Engel. Willem wears a yellow vest to jump in as a volunteer if necessary. The angel on skates can move freely in the outdoor area. He enchants many a resident with his special appearance. He is also very nice, which people appreciate.

I take photos by bike. On the front of my bike is the Lady Hemp sign with the slogan ‘Hemp can save the world’. I seek connection with pedestrians and people filming, by shouting, ‘I wish everyone Love, feel it in your heart’. Many people start to smile. Occasionally there is disapproval, but this does not outweigh the positive reactions.

The tour goes from the Grafisch Lyceum, via the Weena, Central Station, the Heemraadsingel, towards the Euromast. We drive past the Dijkzigt hospital straight on to the Boompjes to Tropicana. There is the turning point to Oostplein, the Goudse road to Pompenburg, Hofplein to Coolsingel. At the Stadhuisplein there are already people for the march that starts at 2 p.m. We drive even further to Blaak to end at the statue of the destroyed city.

At the statue of the destroyed city, Gerard tells that yesterday Friday, April 16, he also wore the striped prisoner suit when he reported the crime at the police station in Rotterdam. This declaration is a 400-page book. Impressive to receive, but also the content is impressive to read.

Finally, there is time for a short chat and a group photo. The police are sincerely thanked for their positive contribution by arranging the traffic on busy roads along the way so that the procession of bicycles could continue to cycle together. Many of the participants want to be at Stadhuisplein at 2 p.m. to join the great march through the city center of Rotterdam.

De fietstocht voor vrijheid door Rotterdam is een succes met ruim 80 deelnemers. Het is mooi weer op zaterdag 17 april, zon en een frisse wind. Om 11.45 uur is er al een grote groep op de startplaats bij het Grafisch Lyceum in Rotterdam. De agenten, die de gehele rit faciliteren, staan op een afstand te kijken. Gerard Nederpel draagt een gestreept gevangene pak en organiseert deze tocht voor de derde keer.

Mensen zijn druk bezig met hartjes ballonnen en tekstkaarten voor op het lichaam. Gerard zelf deelt nog zonnebrillen uit met de tekst ‘feel free to come closer’. Dat doen de meeste deelnemers graag met een knuffel. Universele liefde is een belangrijke energie om mensen te verbinden.

Er is ook muziek. DJ Djas is weer van de partij. Maar er is zelfs live muziek van Wijnand. Hij mag op een kussen zitten in een bakfiets. Mike is zo aardig om de hele tocht te fietsen. Dan zijn er nog deelnemers met megafoons die slogans kunnen roepen onder weg. De meest gehoorde is ‘Liefde, vrijheid, democratie’

Dit keer zijn er twee Engelen bij, de engel op roller skates en Willem Engel. Willem draagt een geel hesje om als vrijwilliger in te springen als dit nodig is. De engel op skates kan zit vrij bewegen in de buiten ruimte. Hij betoverd menig inwoner met zijn bijzondere verschijning. Daarbij is hij heel aardig, wat mensen waarderen.

Ik maak fietsend foto’s. Voor op mijn fiets staat het bord van Lady Hemp met de slogan ‘Hemp can save the world’. Ik zoek verbinding met voetgangers en filmende mensen. Ik roep, ‘ik wens iedereen Liefde, voel het in je hart’. Veel mensen waarderen dit met een glimlach. Een enkele keer is er een afkeuring, maar dit weegt niet op tegen de positieve reacties.

De tocht gaat vanaf het Grafisch Lyceum, via het Weena, Centraal Station, de Heemraadsingel, richting de Euromast. We rijden langs het Dijkzigt ziekenhuis rechtdoor naar de Boompjes tot Tropicana. Daar is het keerpunt naar Oostplein, de Goudse rijweg richting Pompenburg, Hofplein naar de Coolsingel. Bij het Stadhuisplein zijn er al mensen voor de mars die om 14.00 uur begint. Wij rijden nog verder naar Blaak om te eindigen bij het beeld van de verwoeste stad.

Bij het beeld van de verwoeste stad vertelt Gerard dat hij gisteren vrijdag 16 april eveneens in in gestreept gevangene pak aangifte heeft gedaan bij het politiebureau in Rotterdam. Deze aangifte is een 400 pagina dik boekwerk. Indrukwekkend om in ontvangst te nemen, maar ook de inhoud is indrukwekkend om te lezen.

Tot slot is er nog tijd voor een korte babbel en een groepsfoto. De agenten worden hartelijk bedankt voor hun positieve bijdrage door onderweg op drukke wegen het verkeer te regelen dat de stoet fietsen bij elkaar kan blijven fietsen. Veel van de deelnemers willen om 14.00 op het Stadhuisplein zijn om mee te lopen met de grote mars door de binnenstad van Rotterdam.
