Prikvrijpop
On August 7, the annual free pop festival ‘Vestingpop’ would take place in Hellevoetsluis. This year the festival has been cancelled. The organization ‘Verbinding voor Vrijheid’ (connection for freedom)
has come up with an alternative. The fortress wall around the city is a guideline for the march with surprise acts. This is Prikvrijpop (Jabfreepop).

The place to start is on the South Front near the water. The weather is changeable, very windy near the water. The police watch from a distance at the group of people that is growing. A large inflatable doll is being pumped up on the field. It is clear that Prikvrijpop starts here.

The march starts at 2 pm after a short speech by Miranda van Driel from ‘Connection for freedom’.

Respons
Two public controllers are walking along. The music should not be loud, because that can bother people. On the way to the City Hall, the residents watch. One doesn’t like it, the other raises a thumb. The reactions are also divided on the terraces.

Town hall
Down at the town hall is the first act. Performance art with the black suits and anonymous masks. The participants stand or sit to watch the act. A narration sounds from the loudspeakers, and the strength of the unknown individue is shown.

From the Town Hall, the route goes past the fortress on a narrower path. In a line participants walk with greenery and water on one side and the city on the other. The coves of the fortress wall are meant for cannons, which used to defend the city from the outside. Now it is used as a stage for the rapper Confex Kafka.

Confex Kafka
Rapper Confex Kafka is the next act on the Prikpopvrij program. He raps two songs. ‘Come and revolt’ is often played at demonstrations and manifestations. The festival guests can sit on the grass or watch the act from the top of the wall.

The route continues past the mill, over the fortress and back to the heart of the city via the Port. From the boats people watch the demonstrators with banners and yellow umbrellas. Over the bridge, the route leads to a green area with narrow paths to finally arrive at a location where a DJ welcomes everyone with music.

Festival
Dancing time at the end of Prikvrijpop. Miranda van Driel reads another text and Ron plays an jazzy improvisation of ‘Get up, stand up’ by Bob Marley in a mix with ‘Fly like an Eagle’ by Steve Miller. The weather has been dry so far, but the rain is approaching. Time to end this special festival in Hellevoetsluis.

Not much later the water flows down in large drops. The walking pop festival is a huge success. Bet even the police has had a good time. Many thanks to the organisation ‘Verbinding voor Vrijheid’.

 

Prikvrijpop
Op 7 augustus zou het jaarlijks gratis popfestival Vestingpop plaatsvinden in Hellevoetsluis. Dit jaar is het festival afgelast. De organisatie ‘Verbinding voor vrijheid’ heeft een alternatief bedacht, waarin de vestingsmuur rondom de stad leidraad is voor de mars en surprise acts. Dat is Prikvrijpop.

Aan de Zuidfront bij het water is de verzamel plek om te starten. Het weer is wisselvallig met wind aan het water. De politie kijkt op een afstand naar de groep mensen die groter wordt. Op het veld wordt een grote opblaaspop volgepompt. Het is duidelijk hier begint Prikvrijpop.

De mars begint om 14.00 uur na een korte toespraak door Miranda van Driel van ‘Verbinding voor vrijheid’.

Er lopen twee boa’s mee. De muziek mag niet hard staan, want daar kunnen mensen last van hebben. Onderweg richting het Stadhuis kijken de inwoners toe. De een vindt het niks, de ander steekt zijn duim op. Op de terrassen zijn de reacties ook verdeeld.

Stadhuis
Beneden bij het stadhuis is de eerste act. Performance art met de zwarte pakken en anonymous maskers. De deelnemers gaan staan of zitten om de act te aanschouwen. Een gesproken tekst klinkt uit de luidsprekers, en de kracht van de onbekende menigte wordt getoond.

Vanaf het Stadhuis gaat de route langs de vesting over een smaller pad. Met groen omzoomt en uitkijkend op het water aan de ene kant en de stad aan de andere kant. De inhammen van de vesting muur zijn bedoelt voor kanonnen, die vroeger de stad moesten verdedigen van buitenaf. Nu wordt deze gebruikt als podium voor de rapper Confex Kafka.

Confex Kafka
Rapper Confex Kafka is de volgende act op het programma van Prikpopvrij. Hij rapt twee nummers. ‘Kom in opstand’ wordt veel gedraaid op betogingen en manifestaties. Na zijn optreden volgt een korte speech van Miranda van Driel, organisator van Prikvrijpop. De festivalgasten kunnen lekker in het gras zitten of de act vanaf de hogere muur bekijken.

De route gaat verder langs de molen, over de vesting en terug naar het hart van de stad via de Haven. Vanaf de boten kijken mensen naar de manifestanten met vlagen en gele paraplu’s. Over de brug gaat de route naar een groen gebied met smalle paden om tenslotte uit te komen bij een locatie waar een DJ iedereen verwelkomt met muziek.

Festival
Dancing time aan het einde van Prikvrijpop. Miranda van Driel leest nog een tekst voor en Ron speelt een improvisatie van ‘Get up, stand up’ van Bob Marley in een mix met ‘Fly like an Eagle’ van Steve Miller. het weer was tot nu toe droog, maar de regen komt naderbij. Mooi einde van dit bijzondere festival in Hellevoetsluis.

Niet veel later stroomt het water in grote druppels naar beneden. Het wandelende popfestival is een groot succes. Wedden dat zelfs de politie een leuke tijd heeft gehad. Veel dank aan de organisatie ‘Verbinding voor Vrijheid’.
