On Saturday September 11, the legendary date 9/11, there will be a large demonstration of the organization Europeansunited in Brussels. The meeting point is near the bureaucratic heart of Brussels at the EU government buildings in the Cinquantenaire Park or Parc du Cinquantenaire.

Barbed wire
The barbed wire racks stand ready for this colossal high glass buildings. The first row of the barbed wire is with blades, something that is prohibited in the Netherlands. The police are in position around the square and park. The veterans and former soldiers from the Netherlands and Belgium have also come to Brussels. They follow along and de-escalate where necessary.

International
It’s gray and it’s starting to drizzle. The monuments in the Cinquantenaire Park offer a good shelter from the rain. The view extends far over the park. In the distance, the number of people gathering grows. Participants come from Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Belgium. An international group creates international encounters.

On the Esplanade of the Cinquantenaire Park, the banners are already placed for the 20 km run of Brussels tomorrow September 12. The banners provides a good opportunity for a photo once the rain has stopped.

Textboards
There’s a stage near Robert Schumanplein. The organization Europeans united gives room for several speakers. The manifestors express themselves with textboards and clothing. Critical messages or questions about the harmful measures that restrict freedom can be read in several languages. Other messages focus on the connection of people and love.

Children
There are many children who hold selfmade textboards with their own messages about freedom and love.

The march
After the speeches, the march will start at 4.30 pm. The police facilitate the march with a car driving in front, police officers on bicycles and officers in blue uniforms along the side of the route. The route passes through the administrative bureaucratic center and adjacent residential area of Brussels.

Interaction
There’s plenty of interaction along the way. From the balconies with ornate fencing, people wave or record with their mobiles the enormous string of manifestors that pass below them. Others chat with people on the sidewalk. People join along the way.

Finish
Back at the Cinquantenaire Park, people still gather to talk about a fantastic gathering and the march. Music is heard further on. A group of people dances enthusiastically in equal steps and others watch. Other people stand on flower boxes to film it.

Fries
Belgium is the country of the large fries. It’s already dinner time and fries go in. That’s what more people think. The terraces are full.

Meanwhile, the sun is setting. The lights on the street and in the buildings come on. Brussels is turning into an artificially lit outdoor space. The beautiful old buildings are overwhelmed by the modern high-rise buildings of the European government buildings.

Op zaterdag 11 september, de legendarische datum 11/9 is er een grote betoging van de EU in Brussel. Het verzamelpunt is vlakbij de bureaucratisch hart van Brussel bij de EU regeringsgebouwen in het Jubelpark of Parc du Cinquantenaire.

Prikkeldraad
Voor deze kolosale hoogbouw staan de rekken met prikkeldraad klaar. De eerste rij van het prikkeldraad is met mesjes, iets wat in Nederland verboden is. De politie staat op positie rondom het plein en park. De veteranen en oud militairen uit Nederland en België zijn ook naar Brussel gekomen. Ze lopen mee en de-escaleren waar nodig.

Internationaal
Het is grijs en het begint te miezelen. De monumenten in het Jubelpark bieden een goede schuilplek tegen de regen. Het uitzicht reikt ver over het park. In de verte groeit het aantal mensen die zich verzamelen. Deelnemers komen uit België, Nederland, Frankrijk en België. Een internationaal gezelschap schept internationale ontmoetingen. Op de Esplanade van het Jubelpark staan de banners al klaar voor de 20 km loop van Brussel morgen 12 september. De banner biedt een goede gelegenheid voor een foto als de regen is gestopt.

Borden
Vlakbij Robert Schumanplein staat een podium. Er zijn meerdere speeches georganiseerd vanuit de organisatie Europeansunited. De manifestanten spreken zich uit met borden en kleding. In meerdere talen zijn de kritische boodschappen of vragen te lezen over de schadelijke vrijheidsbeperkende maatregelingen. Andere boodschappen richten zich op de verbinding van mensen en liefde.

Kinderen
Er zijn veel kinderen die zelfgemaakte borden vasthouden met eigen boodschappen over vrijheid en liefde.

Mars
Na de speeches start de mars om 16.30 uur. De politie gefaciliteerd de mars met een auto die voorop rijdt, agenten op de fiets en agenten en blauw uniform langs de kant van de route. De route loopt door het bestuurscentrum en aangrenzende woonwijk van Brussel. Onderweg is er genoeg interactie. Vanaf de balkonnetjes met sierlijk hekwerk zwaaien mensen of maken opnames met hun mobiel van de enorme sliert betogers die onder hen voorbij loopt. Anderen maken een praatje met mensen op het trottoir. Onderweg sluiten mensen zich aan.

Finish
Terug bij het Jubelpark komen mensen nog samen om na te praten over een fantastische samenkomst en de mars. Verderop klinkt muziek. Een groep mensen danst enthousiast in gelijke passen en anderen kijken mee. Andere mensen staan op bloembakken om het te filmen.

Frites
Belgie is het land van de grote frites. Het is al etenstijd en friet gaat er wel in. Dat denken meer mensen. De terrassen zitten vol.

Ondertussen gaat de zon onder. De lichten op straat en van de gebouwen gaan aan. Brussel verandert in een artificieel verlichte buitenruimte, waarbij de prachtige oude gebouwen overschreeuwt worden door de moderne hoogbouw van de Europese regeringsgebouwen.
